Longi Set to Illuminate Bangladesh with Solar Investment

Longi, the largest solar panel manufacturer, will set up operations in Bangladesh, following a visit by Chinese firms prompted by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. Chinese investments are increasing in Bangladesh post political changes, with Yunus’s upcoming visit to China expected to yield significant diplomatic and economic benefits, particularly in solar and healthcare sectors.

Longi, recognized as the largest solar panel manufacturer globally, is preparing to establish an office and production facility in Bangladesh, as announced by Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen on March 16. This initiative follows an invitation from Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, propelling major Chinese solar firms to consider relocation in hopes of transforming Bangladesh into an economic powerhouse.

During remarks at the State Guest House Jamuna, Ambassador Yao confirmed that Longi, along with at least two other companies, has pledged to set up their operations in Bangladesh. He attributed the increasing interest in investment from Chinese firms to the political changes following August 5, which allowed Chinese entities to become predominant investors in Bangladesh.

The ambassador emphasized the anticipation surrounding Yunus’s upcoming trip to China, marking his first bilateral journey as Chief Adviser. Scheduled for late March, Yunus will engage with President Xi Jinping and speak at the prestigious Boao Forum, addressing critical themes facing Asia today and receiving an honorary doctorate from Peking University.

Yunus expressed optimism regarding the influx of solar investment, promoting Bangladesh as a vital manufacturing hub for exports targeting Western markets. He further urged Chinese healthcare corporations to invest in Bangladesh to enhance the country’s medical infrastructure, highlighting the need for substantial healthcare investments.

Ambassador Yao disclosed that four hospitals in Kunming, China, have already been allocated for Bangladeshi patients, showcasing ongoing cooperation in healthcare. The establishment of Longi’s operations is perceived as a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s economic development. With the influx of Chinese capital and strengthened diplomatic relations, Yunus’s initiatives could usher in a renewed phase of growth encompassing various sectors, from renewable energy to healthcare.

In summary, Longi’s establishment in Bangladesh signals a significant development in the country’s solar industry and economic landscape. Coupled with intensive Chinese investment and Yunus’s diplomatic efforts in China, this initiative could transform Bangladesh into a manufacturing hub and enhance healthcare services, promising a brighter future for the nation.
