Ivory Coast Gold Output Projected to Reach Record High in 2025
Cote d’Ivoire’s gold output is projected to hit a record high this year, driven by the Lafigue mine and increased investments in the mining sector. Gold production is expected to rise from 58 tons to 62 tons. Jean-Claude Diplo predicts that if current trends continue, Ivory Coast may match Ghana’s production levels by 2030.
Ivory Coast is poised to achieve a record high in gold production this year, primarily driven by output from the newly inaugurated Lafigue mine, as stated by industry official Jean-Claude Diplo. The nation, renowned as the world’s largest cocoa producer, aims to diversify its income sources by developing its underutilized mining sector.
The Lafigue mine, approximately 500 kilometers north of Abidjan, is managed by the London-listed Endeavour Mining. It is anticipated that the mine will yield between 180,000 and 210,000 ounces of gold in 2025. According to Diplo, gold production in Ivory Coast is projected to increase from 58 metric tons in 2024 to 62 metric tons this year.
Diplo highlighted that the rise in gold output will be largely attributed to the Lafigue mine reaching full production. Additionally, significant investments in another major mining operation are expected to further enhance gold output. He noted the steady growth in gold production over recent years, projecting that Ivory Coast may surpass neighboring countries, Mali and Burkina Faso, and approach Ghana’s production levels.
“If we are disciplined, as we are today, we will be on par with Ghana in 2030, according to our projections,” Diplo remarked, reflecting optimism about the nation’s mining potential. Other notable mining companies operating in the region include Barrick Gold, Perseus Mining, and Roxgold.
In conclusion, Ivory Coast is on track to set a record in gold production this year, supported by developments in the Lafigue mine and strategic investments in its mining sector. With projections suggesting growth that could align their output with Ghana’s by 2030, the nation is positioning itself as a significant player in the gold mining industry within the region.
