China’s E-Bike Trade-In Program Achieves Major Sales Milestones

China’s e-bike trade-in program has resulted in over 2 million units sold and 5.61 billion yuan in sales as of Tuesday. Daily sales average 27,000, significantly higher than last year’s figures. The program has also yielded notable benefits for consumers and retail outlets, boosting sales in small businesses across the nation.

China’s consumer good trade-in program for e-bikes has successfully facilitated the sale of over 2.04 million new e-bikes, generating approximately 5.61 billion yuan (equivalent to 783 million U.S. dollars), as reported by the Ministry of Commerce. This significant milestone was achieved as of Tuesday, with the program reflecting strong market support since its implementation.

The trading program has averaged daily sales of 27,000 e-bikes, which is an impressive 2.5 times the volume recorded in the previous year. As a result, over 2 million consumers have benefited, leading to subsidy applications totaling over 1.2 billion yuan, which averages to about 610 yuan per individual, highlighting the program’s impact on consumer affordability.

Moreover, approximately 50,000 retail outlets have gained from the program as of 2025, with an average increase in sales per store of 107,000 yuan. Most of these businesses consist of individual and small to micro-sized enterprises that are crucial for local economies. Since the program’s inception in September 2024, a cumulative total of 3.42 million new e-bikes have been sold across the nation.

The significant increase in e-bike sales driven by the trade-in program underscores the effectiveness of targeted government policies in enhancing consumer accessibility and supporting local retailers. With millions of units sold and considerable financial benefits for consumers and retailers alike, the program demonstrates a successful model for stimulating market growth in sustainable transportation options.
