On March 19, 2025, a roundtable discussion in Dhaka celebrated International Women’s Day, focusing on women’s rights and gender equality through a collaboration involving UNOPS Bangladesh, the Embassy of the Philippines, and DIPLOMATS World Publication. Titled “For All Women and Girls: Unlocking Rights, Power, and Opportunities,” the event coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and emphasized actionable commitments to ensure inclusivity for women globally.

A high-level roundtable discussion focusing on women’s rights was organized on March 19 in Dhaka by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Bangladesh in collaboration with the Embassy of the Philippines and DIPLOMATS World Publication. This event celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 and emphasized global commitments to gender equality, empowerment, and inclusivity.

Entitled “For All Women and Girls: Unlocking Rights, Power, and Opportunities,” the roundtable took place at the UNOPS Bangladesh office. This year’s theme encourages actionable steps to foster equal rights and opportunities for women and girls, advocating for a feminist future where no individual is overlooked.

The significance of 2025 was highlighted during the discussion, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a pivotal framework for the enhancement of women’s rights globally.

The event opened with a welcome address by Sudhir Muralidharan, the country manager of UNOPS Bangladesh. He stated, “Achieving gender equality is not just a goal—it is a necessity for sustainable development. At UNOPS, we are committed to ensuring that all women and girls have the rights, power, and opportunities to shape their own futures.”

Marufa Akter, an associate professor and head of the Department of Global Studies and Governance at the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, presented the keynote address.

The roundtable discussion in Dhaka served as a crucial platform for reinforcing the commitments to women’s rights in light of International Women’s Day 2025. It highlighted actionable steps towards achieving gender equality and acknowledged the historical significance of the Beijing Declaration. Through contributions from respected leaders, the event aimed to empower women and girls, ensuring a future of inclusivity and equal opportunities.
