Zambia has successfully secured a grant of $120 million aimed at enhancing digital transformation within the country. This initiative was announced during the Global Digital Summit where the Science and Technology Minister, Felix Mutati, emphasized the importance of progressing with digital transformation in Zambia. Notably, Mr. Mutati began his trip by meeting with Dr. Chibamba Kanyama, Zambia’s Ambassador to the USA, in Washington DC.

Mr. Mutati’s participation at the Global Digital Summit is significant, as he is accompanied by key officials such as Secretary to Cabinet Patrick Kangwa and Smart Zambia National Coordinator Percy Chinyama. The summit features critical discussions on topics relevant to digital advancement, including presentations from prominent figures like Axel van Trotsenburg from the World Bank and Doreen Bogdan-Martin from the ITU, focusing on global digital development strategies.

Key sessions at the Digital Summit include discussions on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its applications, exemplified by sessions titled “AI Synergy” and “AI Pathways.” Furthermore, a session called “AI Renaissance: Jobs of the Future” will delve into workforce development strategies, addressing the implications of digital transformation on future employment opportunities.

In addition to the main sessions, Minister Mutati is scheduled to hold side meetings with officials such as the ITU Secretary-General and the President of the World Bank. He will also explore exhibits, particularly focusing on innovations like Ethiopia’s Digital ID showcase, which may present further opportunities for future projects in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
