BNP Alleges Media Conspiracy to Undermine Party Stability in Bangladesh
The BNP has claimed that there are efforts to ensure its downfall akin to that of the Awami League. Leaders such as Mirza Abbas have criticized media bias and lack of coverage on other political parties, while Tarique Rahman has condemned the interim government’s role in causing unrest.
On Wednesday, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alleged that certain factions are conspiring to ensure that the party meets a similar fate to that of the Awami League. Following the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina, Khaleda Zia’s BNP rose as the predominant political force in Bangladesh.
BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas, speaking at an iftar event in Dhaka, expressed concern that the media predominantly focuses on negative aspects of the BNP while neglecting to report on other parties. He stated, “Efforts are underway to ensure that the BNP has the same fate as Awami League. They do not write anything good about the BNP.”
Abbas further elaborated on media coverage, lamenting that several parties do not receive adequate attention. He accused journalists of inflating negative narratives surrounding the BNP while remaining silent on significant events concerning other parties.
Additionally, during a recent conference, BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman criticized the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, claiming it has contributed to instability in Bangladesh. He pointed out conflicting governmental statements regarding the restoration of people’s rights, suggesting that this has led to unrest in various regions.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has voiced strong concerns regarding what it perceives as media bias designed to undermine its standing in the political arena. Statements from leaders such as Mirza Abbas and Tarique Rahman highlight a perceived conspiracy to diminish the BNP’s influence and distort public perception through selective reporting, alongside criticism of the current government’s instability.
