Ikee Rikako has successfully met the World Championship qualifying time in the 100m butterfly at the 2025 Japan National Swimming Championships, demonstrating her remarkable recovery. The swimmer, who previously announced her complete remission from leukemia in September 2024, finished second in the event with a time of 57.53 seconds. This achievement enables her to secure a spot on the national team for the upcoming World Championships.

In addition to her final performance, Ikee swam 57.81 seconds in the heats of the 100m butterfly. Expressing her satisfaction, she remarked that her focus was solely on winning the national championship. She recognized that her qualifying round exceeded her expectations while acknowledging that her final performance did not reach her desired outcome.

The 2025 World Aquatics Championships are scheduled to take place in Singapore from July 11 to August 3. In addition to the 100m butterfly, Ikee is set to compete in the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events on Saturday, followed by the 50m freestyle on Sunday.

Ikee reflected on her excitement, sharing that she aimed to swim without nervousness and enjoy the ambiance of the venue. She made her Olympic debut at Rio 2016 and aims to target the LA 2028 Olympic Games, determined to compete in her peak physical condition following her recovery from cancer.
