Kazakhstan Surpasses Uzbekistan in World Happiness Rankings

The World Happiness Report 2025 recognizes Finland as the happiest country for the eighth year, while Kazakhstan ranks highest in Central Asia at 43rd place, improving by six positions. The World Happiness Report 2025, released annually on March 20 in honor of the International Day of Happiness, has ranked Finland as the happiest nation for the eighth consecutive year. In the context of Central Asia, Kazakhstan emerged with the highest ranking among its neighbors, reflecting significant progress in overall happiness metrics.

The report assesses several key criteria, including gross domestic product per capita, life expectancy, social support, personal freedom, corruption levels, and the generosity of the populace. Based on these factors, the happiness rankings for Central Asian countries are as follows: Kazakhstan ranks 43rd (an improvement of 6 places), while Uzbekistan is in 53rd place (a decline of 6 places). Kyrgyzstan remains at 75th, Tajikistan has risen to 90th (an increase of 2 places), and Turkmenistan is not featured in the report.

In contrast, the United States did not secure a top 10 position, falling to 24th place. Russia improved its standing to 66th, while Ukraine dropped to 111th place. Afghanistan was labeled the unhappiest nation, ranking 147th, alongside Sierra Leone, Lebanon, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, which were noted at the bottom of the list.
