President Mahama to Attend Black Stars’ Match Against Chad on Friday
President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to attend the Black Stars match against Chad on Friday, marking the first visit by an incumbent president to a match at the Accra Sports Stadium in recent years. He has expressed both support and nervousness regarding live football but is determined to cheer on the team during their World Cup qualifying campaign.
President John Dramani Mahama is set to attend the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Chad on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium. During a recent visit to the team’s training session, he revealed his apprehensions about watching live football but affirmed his support for the squad.
Mahama expressed, “I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it. They say I should eat before I go and sit down. And my hope is that you would justify my sitting and watching you guys. The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you, and I’m sure that you can make it.”
He emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “We’re gonna work closely together with you so that we can create the atmosphere for not only the Black Stars but all the other junior teams to perform.” This will mark the first appearance of an incumbent president at a Black Stars match in Accra in recent years.
Currently, the Black Stars are positioned third in Group I with nine points and aim to secure maximum points against Chad on March 21 in Accra, followed by a match against Madagascar on March 24 in Morocco.
In conclusion, President Mahama’s commitment to attend the Black Stars match reflects his support for Ghana’s national football team. His words of encouragement bolster the team’s morale as they pursue crucial points in their World Cup qualifying campaign. This represents a significant moment in Ghanaian sports, as it will be the first time in recent years that an incumbent president attends a match at the Accra Sports Stadium.
