Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov mentioned that he had communicated with U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz about the agenda for the upcoming discussions. The talks will address a maritime ceasefire following an agreement for a 30-day pause in attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

The Russian delegation includes Grigory Karasin, the chairman of the Federation Council committee on international affairs, and Sergei Beseda, an adviser to the head of the FSB security service. Karasin participated in previous ceasefire discussions, while Beseda has a controversial background, having once been imprisoned over flawed intelligence prior to the war.

Ushakov expressed confidence in the expertise of the negotiators, stating, “These are truly experienced negotiators who are well-versed in international issues.” Initial reports indicated that the talks were presumed to occur in Jeddah, as stated by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff.
