Chery Unveils New Five-Door Hatchback QQ Duomi in China

Chery has introduced the QQ Duomi, a five-door hatchback, through MIIT filings in China. This model is a rebadged Kaiyi Shiyue, which will help enhance sales. The QQ Duomi measures 3720 mm in length and features a 40 kW electric motor, making it the largest hatchback in the QQ lineup. It is expected to debut at Auto Shanghai 2025.

Recently, Chery has unveiled a new five-door hatchback, known as the QQ Duomi, through filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This model is set to join the existing lineup of small electric vehicles (EVs) from Chery, which includes models like the QQ Ice Cream and Little Ant (eQ1).

The QQ Duomi is a rebadged version of the Kaiyi Shiyue, which is marketed outside China as the Kaiyi e-Qute 02. The Shiyue was introduced in October 2023 as a three-door hatchback, and a five-door version, named the Shiyue Mate, is also in the pipeline. Both models are visually similar apart from their branding.

Notably, the QQ Duomi is the first five-door hatchback within Chery’s EV-only sub-brand, QQ. In contrast, its counterparts like the Ice Cream and Little Ant are three-door variants. The Duomi features sharp LED headlights and a distinctive front design, creating a bold aesthetic that is complemented by its side profile with contrasting pillars.

Measuring 3720 mm in length, 1700 mm in width, and 1599 mm in height, the QQ Duomi boasts a wheelbase of 2520 mm, making it the largest hatchback in the QQ range. An alternative version exists with a slightly greater height of 1608 mm. Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 40 kW (53 hp) electric motor, although details regarding other potential variants remain undisclosed.

The collaboration between Chery and Kaiyi appears to be a strategic effort to enhance sales, as the Shiyue has experienced slow sales figures. With prices for the three-door Shiyue currently between 65,800 and 75,800 yuan (approximately USD 9,100–10,470), the QQ Duomi and its five-door counterpart are anticipated to be priced somewhat higher.

The QQ brand carries historical significance for Chery, originating from the popular city car launched in 2003. The model gained notable recognition in China, with over a million units produced within a decade. Reports indicate that the QQ Duomi may have its official debut at Auto Shanghai 2025, slated for April 23 to May 2, 2025.

In summary, the Chery QQ Duomi represents a significant addition to the small EV market, featuring a five-door hatchback design that enhances practicality while maintaining an appealing aesthetic. The collaboration with Kaiyi aims to invigorate sales, following a trend of merging similar models under different brand names. With its anticipated reveal at Auto Shanghai 2025, the QQ Duomi holds promise for Chery’s future in the electric vehicle segment.
