Burkina Faso Inaugurates New Cement Plant with Chinese Collaboration

Burkina Faso has officially inaugurated a new cement plant, known as Société Industrielle Sino Burkina de Ciments SA (CISINOB SA), located in the Plateau-Central region of Laongo. This facility boasts an impressive capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day and is anticipated to generate hundreds of job opportunities for the nation’s youth. The ceremonious inauguration was conducted by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the interim military president of Burkina Faso, who hailed the plant as a symbol of a beneficial partnership between Burkina Faso and China.

In his address, Captain Traoré expressed pride in the inauguration of CISINOB SA, highlighting its significance for employment in the nation. He stated, “It is with legitimate pride that I inaugurated today, March 20, 2025, in Laongo, the cement plant of CISINOB SA. With a production capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day, it will provide employment opportunities for hundreds of young people in our country.” He underscored the project’s role in enhancing Burkina Faso’s economic sovereignty while encouraging genuine partnerships that honor the country’s independence.

Following its departure from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)—alongside Mali and Niger—the current junta government is focusing on fostering self-sufficiency and establishing connections with non-Western partners.
