China and Zambia have signed an agreement for economic and technical cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations. The deal encompasses new projects to improve food security and public health, including the construction of milling plants and solar-powered water systems. It reflects the commitment of both nations to foster economic growth and technical advancement.

On Friday, China and Zambia formalized a significant agreement for economic and technical cooperation, enhancing their strong and beneficial bilateral relationship. The accord was signed by Wang Sheng, the Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, and Situmbeko Musokotwane, the Zambian Minister of Finance and National Planning, as reported by News.Az. This framework lays the groundwork for the implementation of new projects financed by China in Zambia.

Wang highlighted that this agreement exemplifies the robust collaboration between the two nations. Key priority projects were identified, such as the construction of three additional milling plants aiming to boost food security in Zambia, with construction expected to commence this year. This follows the establishment of three milling plants already operational in the country under China’s previous initiatives.

Furthermore, Wang announced the forthcoming visit of a team of experts to Zambia, tasked with conducting a feasibility study for 300 small solar-powered piped water systems to address local water shortages. A program aimed at supplying HIV testing kits and medication was also revealed to enhance public health services in Zambia.

Wang stated, “For a long time, China has adhered to an approach that emphasizes sincerity, real results, amity and good faith with Africa.” He reiterated China’s commitment to fulfilling its pledges, maintaining that negotiations on revitalizing the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) are advancing with anticipated breakthroughs in the near future.

Wang reaffirmed China’s dedication as a reliable partner to Zambia since their diplomatic ties were established in 1964, notably contributing to numerous infrastructure projects. Musokotwane expressed gratitude for this unwavering support and emphasized that the signing of the agreement reflects both countries’ commitment to promoting economic development and technological progress.

The recent agreement between China and Zambia solidifies their commitment to economic and technical partnerships, underscoring the progress made in collaborative projects designed to enhance food security and public health.
