A Chinese man wanted by Interpol for the abduction and torture of a woman in Cambodia has been apprehended in Thailand’s Chonburi province. He was hiding in a villa and is linked to an investment scam that defrauded victims of 618 million baht. Authorities are coordinating his extradition to China while seeking information on the victim, whose condition is still unknown.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) of Thailand has made significant progress in an investigation related to an alert issued for a Chinese man’s apprehension by Interpol. The man, wanted for the abduction and torture of a Chinese woman in Cambodia, was located at a pool villa in Chonburi’s Bang Lamung district, where he was residing with a 27-year-old Chinese woman.

Pol Lt-Gen Trirong Phiewphan stated that the suspect has implications in an online digital currency investment scam, which defrauded victims of approximately 618 million baht. Upon apprehension, he admitted to having entered Thailand illegally from Cambodia.

CCIB officials contacted the Chinese Embassy, obtaining confirmation that the man is wanted in China and listed on an Interpol Red Notice. He is considered the primary suspect in the abduction of a Chinese woman from Sihanoukville, Cambodia. Her family had previously alerted authorities by sending a ransom letter that included photographs of the victim, who was shown in a box, demanding a ransom of 1 million yuan (4.67 million baht).

The current status of the woman remains unknown, and reports indicate she has exhibited signs of torture. Moreover, the perpetrator is believed to have connections to an international crime syndicate and a money laundering operation. Following this discovery, the CCIB has initiated cooperation with Chinese authorities for the suspect’s extradition to China.
