Regional Governor Ivan Fedorov reported that the assault ignited residential buildings and vehicles, while emergency services searched the debris for survivors. Photos depict the aftermath of the devastating strike, highlighting the urgency of rescue efforts.

This attack occurred just ahead of meetings scheduled for Monday in Saudi Arabia, where Russian and Ukrainian delegations will engage with US officials in efforts to conclude the ongoing war. A tentative agreement for a limited ceasefire was reached between Ukraine and Russia following discussions initiated by US President Donald Trump, but disagreements remain regarding the specific targets excluded from any attacks.

There are stark contrasts in the interpretations of the ceasefire terms among the involved parties. The White House indicated that both “energy and infrastructure” would be protected under the agreement, whereas the Kremlin asserted that coverage was limited to “energy infrastructure.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also called for the protection of railways and ports.

The fatalities in Zaporizhzhia included three family members, with the bodies of a father and daughter recovered from rubble while medical teams attempted for over ten hours to save the mother’s life. In addition, the Ukrainian air force reported 179 drones launched by Russia, claiming to have intercepted 100 of them; several others were reportedly lost due to electronic jamming. Fires have been reported in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions due to debris from these intercepted drones.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated that it downed 47 Ukrainian drones and expressed intentions to retain the right to a “symmetrical response.” The ministry also warned of provocations aimed at disrupting negotiations, highlighting tensions between the two nations amid accusations surrounding the destruction of a Russian gas pumping station near a retreating Ukrainian troop area.
