Furthermore, Iwaya and Wang Yi will hold individual discussions with South Korea’s Cho Tae-yul against the backdrop of improving ties between Japan and South Korea, driven by shared concerns regarding China’s ascendancy in the region.

In December, Tokyo and Beijing successfully agreed to enhance their relations despite ongoing disputes over contested islands and broader territorial issues in the South China Sea.
