Foreign ministers from Japan, China, and South Korea convened on Saturday to discuss mutual concerns such as declining birth rates, natural disasters, and cultural exchanges amidst rising regional tensions. The meeting aimed to pave the way for a trilateral summit later this year, marking a significant diplomatic engagement given the historical disputes existing among the nations.

Japan and South Korea, both U.S. allies, have been strengthening their relations as they face similar concerns regarding the increasing assertiveness of China. Despite historical tensions, Japan and China agreed in December to enhance bilateral ties while recognizing their ongoing territorial disputes, particularly regarding uninhabited islands and maritime claims in the South China Sea.
