Norris Reflects on Tough Tyre Management in China Sprint While Piastri Shines
Lando Norris struggled in the China Sprint due to an early mistake and tyre issues, finishing with just one point. During the 19-lap Sprint, Norris faced difficulties managing his tyres on the newly resurfaced high-grip circuit. An early attempt to overtake George Russell backfired, causing him to fall to ninth place.
Despite his struggles, Norris managed to pass Lance Stroll late in the race for the final point but expressed frustration about his tyre performance throughout. After the Sprint, he acknowledged that his first-lap mistake significantly impacted his race, explaining, “I just went in a bit hot so [that’s] on me” and shared concerns about his car’s pace under challenging conditions.
Conversely, his teammate Oscar Piastri enjoyed a successful Sprint, finishing in second place after executing a late overtake on Max Verstappen. Piastri noted that this result was an encouraging sign for the team, stating, “I think it was a really productive Sprint – obviously finishing second is always a great result.” He recognized the need for improvements to compete with Lewis Hamilton, who maintained a strong lead throughout the race.
