Tencent Unveils T1 Reasoning Model Amidst Fierce AI Competition in China

Tencent has launched its official T1 reasoning model, featuring enhanced processing capabilities and low error rates, amid intensifying competition in the Chinese AI sector, especially from rivals like DeepSeek. The T1 is powered by the new Turbo S model, designed for faster query processing, and is part of Tencent’s increasing investment in AI technologies.

On March 22, 2025, Tencent, the renowned Chinese technology company, unveiled the official version of its T1 reasoning model, intensifying competition in China’s burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) market. The new T1 model boasts faster response times and improved capabilities for processing long text documents, which the company highlighted in a post on WeChat, stating it maintains “clear content logic and neat text,” with an “extremely low” hallucination rate.

This launch is set against a backdrop of increasing competition within China’s AI sector, particularly after DeepSeek released models performing comparably or better than Western counterparts at significantly reduced costs. Prior to this official launch, Tencent had made the T1 model available as a preview through various platforms, including its AI assistant application, Yuanbao.

The T1 model operates on Tencent’s recently introduced Turbo S foundational language model, which the company claims is capable of processing queries at a faster rate than its competitor, DeepSeek’s R1 model. A comparison chart shared by Tencent indicates that the T1 model surpasses DeepSeek R1 in several knowledge and reasoning benchmarks.

In recent months, Tencent has notably escalated its investments in artificial intelligence. Just a day before the T1 model’s launch, the company announced plans to increase its capital expenditures for 2025, building upon significant AI investments made throughout 2024.

Tencent’s launch of the T1 reasoning model marks a significant advancement in the competitive AI landscape of China. The model enhances processing speed and text handling while maintaining clarity and low error rates. As Tencent continues to invest aggressively in AI technology, its rivalry with competitors like DeepSeek suggests an evolving and dynamic market, poised for further innovations.
