Professor Yunus’s Upcoming Visit to China: A Milestone for Bilateral Relations
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen indicated that Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus’s visit to China will be historic and fruitful, occurring as both nations commemorate 50 years of diplomatic relations. The visit will include discussions at the Boao Forum for Asia and meetings with significant Chinese officials, including President Xi Jinping.
The Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, Professor Mohammad Yunus, is poised to make a significant visit to China, according to the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen. He described the upcoming trip as “very successful, productive and a milestone visit with some announcements”. The remarks were made following Ambassador Yao’s meeting with the Bangladeshi foreign secretary, Md Jashim Uddin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Yao noted the ongoing close collaboration between China and Bangladesh, emphasizing that discussions are still underway. He urged observers to “wait and see” regarding specifics about the visit. This diplomatic mission occurs as both nations celebrate five decades of diplomatic relations.
Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain clarified that no formal agreements are expected to be signed during this visit; however, multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) may be established. Professor Yunus is scheduled to depart for China on March 26 to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Conference in Hainan Province, where he will deliver a speech at the opening plenary session on March 27 and may meet with China’s Executive Vice Premier, Ding Xuexiang.
Significantly, on March 28, Professor Yunus is expected to meet President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and to visit a high-tech enterprise operated by Huawei, along with giving an interview to a prominent Chinese media outlet. Furthermore, Peking University is set to award Dr. Yunus an honorary doctorate on March 29, with his return to Bangladesh planned for the same day.
In summary, Professor Mohammad Yunus’s upcoming visit to China, marked by important engagements and potential MoUs, signifies a notable milestone amid the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and China. His interactions with key Chinese leaders may enhance bilateral cooperation and pave the way for future collaborations.
