On Monday, Apple Inc. announced its commitment to invest 720 million yuan (approximately 100.31 million US dollars) in a new clean energy fund in China. This initiative aims to enhance the country’s power grid by adding around 550,000 megawatt-hours of wind and solar energy generation capacity each year. The company anticipates that this capacity will increase as additional investors participate in the fund.
Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, highlighted the impressive progress made by the company’s suppliers in China in adopting smart and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices. Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed pride in the new clean energy fund during his visit to China. The announcement coincided with Cook’s recent visit to China, where he engaged with Chinese officials and participated in the China Development Forum in Beijing. He acknowledged the Chinese government’s proactive measures to enhance consumption and facilitate development across sectors, which were discussed during his meeting with Ren Hongbin, the chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
