On March 24, 2025, U.S. and Russian delegations convened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to initiate a new round of diplomatic discussions. The primary focus of these talks is to facilitate a settlement pertaining to Ukraine and to negotiate a ceasefire in the Black Sea region before progressing to a more comprehensive agreement.
These negotiations follow a prior meeting between the United States and Ukraine that took place on March 23, 2025. Additionally, former President Trump engaged in phone discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier in the week, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The U.S. delegation is headed by Andrew Peek, a senior director at the White House National Security Council, supplemented by Michael Anton, a senior official from the State Department. On the Russian side, Grigory Karasin, chair of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee, and Sergei Beseda, an adviser to the director of the Federal Security Service, represent their interests, as reported by Al Arabiya News.
The commencement of talks between the U.S. and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia marks an important step toward resolving conflicts in Ukraine and the Black Sea.
