Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn celebrated the ninth anniversary of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), highlighting its role in fostering equal partnerships and collaborative leadership among six nations. Since its initiation in 2016, the LMC has contributed to economic development, infrastructure improvement, and social welfare. Sokhonn emphasized the importance of mutual trust and ongoing cooperation to achieve sustainable growth and shared prosperity in the region.

On March 25, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn emphasized that the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) reflects a spirit of equal partnership and collective leadership among its member countries. This year marks the ninth anniversary of the LMC, which Sokhonn highlighted as a time to celebrate progress towards peace and shared prosperity within the Mekong sub-region.

He mentioned that since its inception in 2016, the LMC has facilitated important dialogue and collaboration among Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. The framework encompasses critical areas including political and security dialogue, sustainable economic development, and cultural exchanges among the nations involved.

Sokhonn outlined the successes achieved under the LMC, noting advancements in narrowing the development gap, improving connectivity through infrastructure projects, and enhancing the well-being of the local populations. He acknowledged the crucial role of the LMC Special Fund, which finances key projects in rural development, education, women’s empowerment, and other vital sectors.

Expressing gratitude towards China for its ongoing support, Sokhonn stressed the need for continued commitment to mutual trust and respect. He called for deepening cooperation to tackle emerging challenges and emphasized efforts towards promoting inclusive and sustainable development aimed at achieving a community with a shared future.
