Huntsville’s Role in National Defense: Addressing Chinese Security Threats

In Huntsville, Alabama, the Applied Research Center hosted a significant roundtable discussion with prominent defense industry leaders and members of the U.S. House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. This event aimed to address critical issues such as expanding production capacities, enhancing innovation, and securing supply chains within the U.S. Defense Industrial Base to counter Chinese national security threats.

U.S. Representative John Moolenaar of Michigan, chair of the committee, commended the increasing importance of Huntsville in national defense, particularly in missile defense and hypersonic technologies. “It was a privilege to visit Huntsville and engage with local leaders and industry experts on the pressing challenges facing our nation’s defense capabilities,” Moolenaar stated, emphasizing the need for collaboration to strengthen national security against China’s military ambitions.

The roundtable featured senior representatives from notable defense companies, including RTX, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman, and the Aerospace Industries Association. The discussions highlighted the challenges in increasing production, adopting new technologies, and reducing reliance on foreign materials, particularly those sourced from China.

Representative Dale Strong from Alabama also expressed gratitude to Auburn for facilitating the meeting and emphasized collaboration in national security efforts within Huntsville. Alongside Moolenaar and Strong, Representative Robert Aderholt, also from Alabama, participated in this crucial dialogue.
