Katego Keorapetse Shines at 2025 Botswana Boxing Association Tournament
Katego Keorapetse of the University of Botswana won the Bantamweight Gold Medal and was named Best Boxer of the 2025 BOBA Best of Best Tournament. His teammate Letlhogonolo Makgolela earned silver in the 60kg category, while three other club members secured bronze medals. Lethabo Modukanele’s return to competition was delayed due to technical issues.
Katego Keorapetse, a prominent boxer from the University of Botswana (UB), excelled at the 2025 Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) Best of Best Tournament by winning the Bantamweight Gold Medal and receiving the title of Best Boxer of the Tournament (Men). This distinguished event took place on March 15 at Molapo Piazza, showcasing Botswana’s elite boxers competing for top honors.
The Best of Best Tournament features intense matchups as the top four ranked fighters across various weight categories face off. In the bantamweight division, Keorapetse triumphed over Bond Ngubula Jnr from 1-2-5 Boxing Club with a narrow 3-2 decision in a hard-fought final. This bout was also awarded as the Best Male Bout of the Tournament.
Prior to reaching the final, Keorapetse dominated his semifinal match, achieving a decisive 5-0 victory against Katlo Kgowe representing Prisons Boxing Club. His exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament secured him the title of 2025 Best of Best Bantamweight Champion.
Beyond Keorapetse’s success, fellow UB Boxing Club member Letlhogonolo Makgolela, a bronze medalist at the 2025 AFBC Zone IV Championship, earned a silver medal in the 60kg weight category. After a challenging semifinal match where he defeated Thato Shabaku from EMG Boxing Club by a 3-2 decision, he lost in the final to Kago Raokgwathile from 1-2-5 Boxing Club.
In addition, three more athletes from UB Boxing Club achieved bronze medals: Tshepang Nkagisang (51kg), Kaone Gaobotlhoko (57kg), and Karabo Motshwarakgole (63.5kg). These accomplishments affirm UB Boxing Club’s status as a formidable presence in the national boxing community.
Furthermore, Lethabo Modukanele, a bronze medalist from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, was expected to make her eagerly awaited return to competition; however, her participation was hindered by unforeseen technicalities, ultimately excluding her from the tournament.
Katego Keorapetse’s remarkable achievements at the 2025 BOBA Best of Best Tournament highlight the University of Botswana’s prominence in boxing. His victories and those of his teammates, including silver and bronze medal wins, emphasize the club’s strength and potential.
