A woman from China orchestrated a fraud scheme by changing locks on 80 apartments and unlawfully selling them, defrauding friends and family out of approximately US$3.3 million. Despite her husband’s efforts to repay debt through frugality, Wang Wei’s lavish lifestyle and fraudulent activities led to her scheme, which began in 2019.

In a striking case of deception, a woman in China, known as Wang Wei from Gansu province, executed a fraud scheme by changing locks on 80 apartments and selling them, netting approximately 24 million yuan (US$3.3 million) over a five-year period. Reports from news outlet Nanfengchuang indicate that she is in her early 30s.

Following her marriage to Cheng in 2017, the couple incurred substantial credit card debt, largely attributed to Wang’s lavish lifestyle. In a bid to mitigate their financial situation, Cheng’s father obtained a loan of 450,000 yuan (US$62,000) against his home.

To honor his financial commitment, Cheng embraced a frugal lifestyle for years, unaware that his wife was executing a complex fraud against their friends and family. This unlawful operation began in 2019 when Wang discovered a local company releasing a new set of relocation houses slated for allocation, which she exploited.

This case underscores the severe implications of financial irresponsibility and deceit within personal relationships. Wang Wei’s actions not only inflicted financial loss on her friends and family but also placed significant strain on her husband’s efforts to manage their debts. The fraudulent tactics employed in this scenario highlight the need for vigilance in property transactions and personal trust.
