China Successfully Launches New Tianlian Data Relay Satellite to Enhance Space Infrastructure
China launched the Tianlian-2 (04) data relay satellite on March 26, 2025, from Xichang. This satellite enhances China’s capabilities for tracking and data relay, supporting crewed missions such as the Tiangong space station. It features upgrades over its predecessor and is part of a larger plan for increased launch activity and further space exploration.
On March 26, 2025, China successfully launched the Tianlian-2 (04) data relay satellite using a Long March 3B rocket. This launch took place at 11:55 a.m. Eastern Time from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, further enhancing China’s infrastructure in the geostationary orbit. The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) confirmed the successful deployment approximately an hour after liftoff.
