The rise of satellites equipped for “jamming, spoofing, and dazzling” signals a tactical shift in space conflict. Guetlein explained that recent incidents involving foreign satellites shadowing US spacecraft have created a provocative “cat and mouse” situation. Such encounters contravene the previous implicit agreement of non-interference in space, as adversarial nations increasingly partake in hostile activities against US operations.
In response to these escalating threats, the US Space Force is bolstering its infrastructure and increasing redundancies. Guetlein highlighted the importance of collaborating with commercial and allied partners, as private sector technology may surpass government capabilities. A newly launched initiative, Golden Dome, aims to integrate diverse defense technologies that have previously functioned independently. Guetlein asserted that cross-sector collaboration is vital for enhancing space security and discouraging adversaries.
