Bangladesh and China have signed an agreement and eight MoUs covering economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and health sectors. Discussions on investment negotiations were also launched, alongside significant projects like the China Industrial Economic Zone. President Xi assured support for increased Chinese investment in Bangladesh.

On March 28, 2025, Bangladesh and China formalized their commitment to economic and technical cooperation by signing a pivotal agreement along with eight memoranda of understanding (MoUs). These MoUs encompass a diverse range of sectors such as cultural heritage, media exchanges, sports, health, and the translation and production of classic literature. The signing was confirmed by Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder following a report from the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

Furthermore, significant progress was made regarding investment negotiations, with five announcements dedicated to launching formal discussions. Among the signed instruments were provisions for the initiation of the China Industrial Economic Zone and a commercial agreement aimed at the modernization and expansion of the Mongla port. Additional projects include the establishment of a robotic physiotherapy and rehabilitation center as well as the donation of a cardiac surgery vehicle.

In a related bilateral meeting, President Xi Jinping assured Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus of China’s support for increased investment and the relocation of Chinese manufacturing enterprises to Bangladesh. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam characterized the meeting as “comprehensive, fruitful, and constructive,” noting China’s willingness to consider several critical issues raised by Bangladesh, such as lowering interest rates on loans and collaborating on water resource management.

The recent agreements between Bangladesh and China signify a substantial enhancement of their economic and technical cooperation. With comprehensive agreements spanning various sectors, including investment opportunities and infrastructure projects, both nations aim to strengthen their bilateral ties. The commitments expressed by President Xi Jinping to support Bangladesh affirm a promising future for collaboration between the two countries.
