President Xi Jinping Praises Bangladeshi Mangoes and Jackfruits

Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the taste of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits during a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. This endorsement could facilitate exports to China, expected to commence by May. The Bangladeshi government is preparing for large-scale fruit exports, supported by technical assistance from the World Food Programme.

On March 28, 2025, during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed his appreciation for the exquisite taste of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits. This acknowledgment not only highlights the quality of these fruits but also signifies a potential increase in their export to China.

Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, conveyed President Xi’s remarks, stating that the admiration from such a prominent global leader could significantly enhance the prospects for exporting Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits to China, which may commence in the forthcoming season (May to August).

As part of this initiative, Bangladesh anticipates a substantial increase in the export of these fruits to China in the months ahead. The Chinese government has shown interest in importing mangoes, guavas, and jackfruits from Bangladesh, according to a recent meeting between the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, and Prof. Yunus.

The Chief Adviser had proactively requested the Chinese government to consider importing these varieties, thereby creating new avenues for Bangladeshi exports to China. Alam emphasized, “We will be able to export jackfruit there on a large scale,” noting the Chinese consumer’s preference for Bangladeshi produce. Furthermore, with support from the World Food Programme (WFP), which will provide $4 million and technical assistance, Bangladesh is poised to maintain the requisite export standards for its fruits.

The recognition of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits by President Xi Jinping bolsters the prospects for these fruits in international markets, particularly in China. With anticipated exports beginning in the next season and significant support from the World Food Programme, Bangladesh’s fruit sector is poised for expansion.
