Xi Jinping Praises Bangladeshi Mangoes and Jackfruits, Signaling Export Opportunities

Chinese President Xi Jinping has praised the taste of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits, signaling potential opportunities for exports to China. This recognition could lead to increased exports beginning next season, following successful bilateral discussions with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus. Support from the World Food Programme is set to enhance quality standards for these exports.

On March 28, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the rich taste of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits during a meeting with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. This acknowledgment by a global leader underscores the significance of these fruits and their potential for export. President Xi expressed his fondness for these fruits, indicating a strong preference for their flavors.

According to Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, this recognition from President Xi enhances the prospects of exporting these fruits to China. It is anticipated that exports of Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits will commence in the following season, specifically during the months of May to August.

Bangladesh is optimistic about scaling up exports of these fruits to China in the coming months, following a bilateral discussion between Professor Yunus and President Xi at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, highlighted China’s eagerness to import not just mangoes and jackfruits but also guavas from Bangladesh, increasing the potential market for these products.

Earlier, Chief Adviser Yunus had formally requested the Chinese government to consider importing these fruits, as expressed during a recent briefing wherein Alam discussed the positive outlook ahead. This arrangement could signify a transformative opportunity for Bangladeshi exports to China, enabling large-scale exportation of both jackfruits and mangoes, which are well-liked by Chinese consumers.

In conclusion, President Xi Jinping’s admiration for Bangladeshi mangoes and jackfruits represents a valuable opportunity for the country’s fruit export sector. With plans to export these fruits to China commencing soon, Bangladesh aims to enhance its agricultural trade and meet the growing international demand. The collaboration with the World Food Programme further assures that quality standards will be upheld, reinforcing Bangladesh’s presence in the global market.
