In a recent meeting in Tokyo, United States Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized the shared “warrior ethos” between the United States and Japan in combating Chinese aggression in the Asia Pacific region. He labeled Japan as an “indispensable partner” in efforts to deter military threats from China, particularly across the Taiwan Strait.

During this meeting with Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani, Hegseth reiterated America’s commitment to maintaining a strong deterrent presence in the Indo-Pacific. Over recent years, China has significantly ramped up its military activities near Taiwan, which raises concerns over potential military actions to assert control over the island.
