Putin also noted plans for a comprehensive agenda for Xi Jinping’s significant visit to Moscow for the Victory Parade, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany. Wang recognized the necessity for major powers to support stability in the current global landscape and welcomed any efforts towards improving U.S.-Russia relations.

Despite ongoing conflicts, Wang pointed to constructive developments in ceasefire negotiations, asserting, ‘The step towards peace, although not that big, is constructive – it’s worth building on it.’ Xi Jinping has encouraged China to take a more active role in peace talks, presenting China as a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict.

While Beijing maintains a close economic relationship with Russia and has avoided condemning Moscow’s actions, NATO has criticized China as a ‘decisive enabler’ of Russia. Nevertheless, China has proposed principles for peace, both independently and with Brazil, showing willingness to engage in the resolution of the conflict.
