Côte d’Ivoire will host the Women’s AfroBasket for the first time in history, taking place at the historic Palais des Sports Trechville in Abidjan from July 25 to August 3, 2025. The national team, known as the Elephants, achieved a fourth-place finish at the 2009 tournament, which remains their best outcome. They aspire to win the tournament, aiming to become the first host nation to do so since Nigeria in 2005.

Moussa Diarra, President of the Côte d’Ivoire Basketball Federation, stated that the team is determined to secure at least a third-place finish, believing they have a strong chance against tough competitors. “At least the top three. If we finish third, we’ll be happy, and if we finish higher, we’ll be even happier,” Diarra remarked.

Côte d’Ivoire is actively recruiting foreign-based players who are eager to represent their country. Diarra mentioned ongoing efforts to ensure a talented roster for the tournament, noting that meetings with players in Europe have driven their enthusiasm to join the national team. Training will commence in June to finalize the squad based on the best performances.

The preparations for this prestigious event reflect Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to excel on home ground, with expectations heightened for a strong showing. FIBA has confirmed that the tournament will spotlight the talents across Africa, gathering twelve nations for competitive basketball matches in Abidjan.
