Egypt and China Collaborate on Waste Management Investment Initiatives
On April 1, 2025, Egypt’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority, led by Yasser Abdullah, discussed potential investments in waste management with Sinoma, a major Chinese company. The focus included Refuse-Derived Fuel production and safe waste disposal practices. Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad affirmed the commitment to learning from international methods for integrated waste management.
On April 1, 2025, Yasser Abdullah, the CEO of Egypt’s Waste Management Regulatory Authority, engaged in discussions with a delegation from Sinoma, a prominent Chinese company. Zhao Danhui, the Deputy Chairman of Sinoma’s operations in Egypt, led the talks, which centered on potential cooperation in the field of waste management, specifically focusing on the investment in alternative fuel through the production of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF).
Both parties explored strategies for the secure disposal of waste while ensuring compliance with high environmental standards aimed at enhancing Egypt’s solid waste management system. According to Mena News Agency, Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad emphasized the government’s commitment to adopting best international practices in integrated waste management and boosting investment across various stages.
During the meeting, the Chinese delegation received briefings on Egypt’s waste management infrastructure, including visits to several significant waste sites. Sinoma, which is among China’s largest waste treatment companies, has been operational in Egypt for over ten years, successfully recycling 50% of the country’s cement production.
In summary, the meeting between Egypt and Sinoma represents a significant step forward in enhancing waste management practices in Egypt. The discussions highlighted potential investments in alternative fuels and strategies for secure waste disposal, illustrating Egypt’s commitment to adopting superior international standards in sustainability.
