BNP Leader Criticizes New York Times Report as Misinformation Campaign
BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed condemned a New York Times report as a fascist attempt funded by political adversaries. He stressed that extremism is not on the rise in Bangladesh and highlighted the freedom of religious practice and expression among the populace. Rizvi criticized the Awami League’s disinformation strategies aimed at tarnishing the country’s image.
In a recent statement, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed criticized a New York Times report, labeling it as a product of defeated political adversaries and accusing them of being akin to fascists who are funding misinformation campaigns against Bangladesh. He articulated that these efforts aim to damage the country’s reputation using illicit funding.
Rizvi asserted that the notion of rising extremism within Bangladesh is unfounded, claiming instead that the populace continues to practice their religion freely and peacefully. He remarked that citizens enjoyed freedom of speech and celebrated the holy Eid festival without fear, contrasting it with previous years under Sheikh Hasina’s rule when such celebrations were not possible.
The BNP leader expressed concern over what he described as the Awami League’s spread of disinformation globally. He noted that the world has observed a dramatic portrayal by Sheikh Hasina regarding the suppression of militancy, which Rizvi contended was a political maneuver aimed at consolidating her power, as referenced in a former Inspector General of Police’s book.
Rizvi further accused the Awami League of engaging in activities to undermine Bangladesh’s image, mentioning that those who have fled the party are attempting to instigate chaos to destabilize the nation.
Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed’s remarks highlight concerns regarding misinformation being disseminated about Bangladesh, especially as they pertain to claims of extremism and political stability. He emphasizes the current state of religious freedom and the ability of citizens to celebrate without fear. Rizvi also underscores the alleged intent of the Awami League to undermine Bangladesh’s image through disinformation campaigns.
