Chile President Commends PM Modi Amidst Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Chilean President Gabriel Boric commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unique diplomatic skills during his visit to India to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. He praised India’s democratic values and expressed Chile’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, unveiling several signed agreements during his stay.
President Gabriel Boric of Chile lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to India, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Boric highlighted PM Modi’s unique diplomatic capability, stating, “PM Modi has a weird status nowadays that he can talk to every leader of the world, Mr. Putin, Mr. Trump, Mr. Zelensky, and the European Union, and Latin American leaders in BRICS or Iran.”
Boric emphasized that Modi’s ability to engage with global leaders sets him apart, affirming, “That is something that no other leader can do now. You (PM Modi) are a key player in the geopolitical atmosphere nowadays.” He also praised India’s democratic values, noting, “India is the biggest democracy in the world,” and commended the country’s efforts towards peace and combating inequalities.
During this state visit, Boric expressed Chile’s intention to strengthen ties with India. He mentioned, “Chile is a country that is connected to the world,” emphasizing the diversity in Chile’s international relationships, including with China, the United States, and Japan, and expressed eagerness for deeper cooperation with India. Several Memoranda of Understanding have been signed to facilitate this collaboration.
President Droupadi Murmu welcomed Boric warmly, remarking on the recent strengthening of bilateral relations and the opportunities for increased cooperation. She recognized Boric’s inspirational rise from student politics to the presidency, affirming the promising future of Chile-India relations.
