Chilean President Hails PM Modi’s Global Leadership During Historic Visit to India

Chilean President Gabriel Boric praised PM Narendra Modi for his remarkable global leadership, noting the latter’s ability to engage with various world leaders. During his visit to India, Boric expressed a desire to strengthen ties and highlighted mutual cooperation through several signed agreements. Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font commended Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his exceptional diplomatic abilities, stating that PM Modi can engage with every world leader and is a significant geopolitical figure today. At Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Boric articulated, “You have the status nowadays that you can talk to every leader of the world,” highlighting PM Modi’s connections with leaders from various regions such as the U.S. and Europe.

Expressing his appreciation for the warm reception during his inaugural State visit to India, President Boric remarked, “I want to thank you for the warm welcome that we have received here… India has changed a lot” over the past 16 years since Chile’s last visit. He emphasized Chile’s desire to strengthen its relationship with India by noting, “Chile wants to work on our relationship with India.”

President Boric outlined Chile’s global connections and commitment to diversify its partnerships, stating, “We do not depend on one special country, but we have relationships with China, with the United States… and now we want to work more deeply in our relationships with India.” He also discussed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), which include cultural exchanges and Antarctic exploration.

Currently, President Boric is visiting India from April 1 to 5, 2025, to celebrate 76 years of diplomatic relations. This marks his first official visit to India, where he will also travel to Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. His delegation includes various ministers, members of parliament, and business leaders. The meeting with PM Modi follows their initial encounter during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.
