Chilean President Lauds PM Modi’s Unique Geopolitical Influence
During a state visit to India, Chilean President Gabriel Boric praised PM Narendra Modi’s unique geopolitical status and emphasized the desire to strengthen bilateral relations. The visit celebrates 76 years of diplomatic ties, with several MoUs signed during the trip.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font, during his state visit to India from April 1 to 5, 2025, lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unique position in global geopolitics. Speaking at a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Boric emphasized Modi’s ability to engage with various world leaders, highlighting his significance as a key player in international affairs.
President Boric remarked on Modi’s “weird” status, noting his dialogues with notable figures such as US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He commented, “That is something that no other leader can say now. You are a key player in the geopolitical atmosphere nowadays,” acknowledging India’s growing influence on the global stage.
Expressing Chile’s desire to strengthen ties with India, President Boric stated, “Chile is a country that is connected to the world, and now we want to work on our relationship with India. Today, we have signed several MoUs.” This visit commemorates 76 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, marking an important moment for bilateral engagement.
Accompanying President Boric are several key Chilean ministers and business leaders, which underscores the depth of the delegation’s intent to develop collaboration with India. Notably, this visit marks Boric’s first trip to India, although he and PM Modi previously met during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.
