Chilean President Praises PM Modi’s Global Leadership During State Visit

Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font has commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarkable diplomatic skills, stating that PM Modi is able to engage with every global leader. He referred to PM Modi as a “key geopolitical player” in today’s political landscape. In remarks made at Rashtrapati Bhawan, Boric highlighted PM Modi’s ability to connect with leaders such as Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the European Union, and various Latin American heads of state.

During his first official State visit to India, President Boric expressed appreciation for the warmth extended to him, noting, “I want to thank you for the warm welcome that we have received here…for the past 16 years, no one from Chile has come here, and in that 16 years, India has changed a lot.” Upon his arrival, he was honored with a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.

Furthermore, Boric emphasized Chile’s desire to strengthen ties with India, saying, “Chile is a country that is connected to the world, and now we want to work on our relationship with India.” He also mentioned the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during his visit.

In addition to diplomatic outreach, President Boric underscored the importance of mutual cooperation and strategic autonomy between Chile and India. He stated, “We do not depend on one special country, but we have relationships with China, with the United States, with the European Union, and now we want to work more deeply in our relationships with India.”

Boric’s visit, taking place from April 1-5, 2025, marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He is accompanied by various ministers and business leaders, and his itinerary includes visits to New Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Boric and PM Modi previously met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in November 2024.
