In a remarkable development for the sport of weightlifting in Oceania, Luisa Peters and Jerry Wallwork have been elected to lead the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the Cook Islands and Samoa, respectively. Luisa Peters, who has an extensive background in weightlifting, serves on the IWF Athletes Commission and the IWF Executive Board. She is currently the Vice-President of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation and the President of the Cook Islands Weightlifting Federation. Peters has represented her nation at the Olympics in both London 2012 and Rio 2016, along with three Commonwealth Games appearances.

Jerry Wallwork, also a prominent figure in Olympic weightlifting, has been elected the NOC leader for Samoa. He previously competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and secured a silver medal at the 1991 Pacific Games. Wallwork currently holds the position of President of Samoa Weightlifting and has coached several athletes, including Ele Opeloge, who won a silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

The ascendancy of Peters and Wallwork reinforces the influence of weightlifting within Oceania, with other notable leaders from the sport also helming their respective National Committees. These include Marcus Stephen (Nauru), Ed Imo (American Samoa), Michael Bloomfield (Tonga), and Anthony Muller (Marshall Islands).
