NPFL: Fidelis Ilechukwu Reflects on Rangers’ Goalless Draw with Bendel Insurance

Rangers International FC coach Fidelis Ilechukwu regarded the draw against Bendel Insurance as two points dropped. The goalless match at the NPFL saw Rangers hold back Bendel Insurance, with both teams missing key chances. Rangers remain at 46 points and will move on to prepare for the President Federation Cup fixtures.

Rangers International FC’s head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has characterized the team’s goalless draw against Bendel Insurance as a lost opportunity, stating that they dropped two points. The match occurred on match day 32 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where Rangers managed to secure a single away point with a 0-0 scoreline against Bendel Insurance FC.

Ilechukwu conveyed his mixed feelings regarding the outcome, acknowledging the competitive nature of the match. “It was a good match. We came prepared to take all three points and played like it, but in the end, we’re only happy with the draw. This is definitely two points dropped for us. We’ll keep pushing hard to finish the season strong,” he remarked.

The encounter proved to be competitive, with both teams generating opportunities but ultimately failing to convert them into goals. Although Bendel Insurance had periods of possession during the first half, they struggled to penetrate Rangers’ organized defense, while the most notable chance for Rangers came from Isaac Saviour, whose free-kick narrowly missed the target in the 29th minute.

After halftime, Rangers increased their offensive efforts, with players Frank Uwumiro and Godwin Obaje creating significant pressure on the Insurance defense. Uwumiro almost scored early in the second half, but later in the 75th minute, Obaje was unable to execute a proper shot following a promising setup.

Chimobi Igwilo, a teenager who entered the game as a substitute, quickly posed a threat to the Insurance backline but was denied a late winning goal by the steadfast defense. This draw leaves Rangers with 46 points from 32 matches, continuing their pursuit of a strong season finish as both teams prepare for the upcoming President Federation Cup 2025 round of 16 fixtures on April 16 in Lagos.

In summary, Rangers International FC’s head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, viewed the goalless draw against Bendel Insurance as a setback, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their momentum in the league. The match showcased a spirited contest where both teams had opportunities but ultimately could not secure a win. As they transition to the President Federation Cup, both teams remain focused on furthering their competitive aspirations.
