Madan noted that certain Indian products could gain better access to the U.S. market if a deal is reached between the U.S. and India, potentially replacing some Chinese products. However, she also pointed out challenges, stating, “India exports a lot to the US and it imports a lot from China.” She cautioned that if China cannot export to the U.S., those goods might flood into markets like India, thus increasing competition.
Regarding Indo-US relations, Madan remarked on the strengthened cooperation since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which impacted both nations. There has been enhanced collaboration in law enforcement, homeland security, and counter-terrorism. She stated, “you’re seeing the signs of both a broader cooperative relationship and the benefits of that, but also very specific counterintelligence, counterterrorism and intelligence cooperation and homeland security cooperation over the ages.”
