Mall stated, “The main warehouse has been completely destroyed. We are yet to evaluate the total loss.”
Kusum Healthcare operates a factory in Sumy, Ukraine, where it manufactures essential medicines, and Mr. Mall confirmed that operations at the factory are ongoing despite the precarious security situation. He outlined the company’s significant presence in Ukraine, saying, “Our factory in Sumy is fully operational as of now, despite the heavy conflict taking place here.”
In light of the ongoing war, Mall described the dire situation for Indian professionals and students in the region. He indicated that only a few Indian nationals remain in Sumy, as many have left due to the conflict. He described the logistical issues faced by those who stay, stating, “Sometimes there’s no time left to run to the bomb shelters as the city is located merely 25 km from the border with Russia.”
Mr. Mall described the situation in Sumy as extremely volatile, with progressive bombardment from Russian forces. He remarked on the severity of the current conflict, stating, “This is really an all-out war on the ground. There are at least 200 rockets that are landing in Sumy throughout the day.” Again, he emphasized that the majority of the employees in the factory are local Ukrainians, with him currently being the only Indian staff member.
The announcement of the attack coincided with a cultural event organized by the Russian Embassy, marking the anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Russia established in 1947. As of now, the Russian Embassy has not issued any statements regarding the bombing incident.
