Pakistani Man Extradited from Canada for Alleged U.S. Attack Plot

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a 20-year-old Pakistani man, was extradited from Canada to the U.S. to face charges for plotting a mass shooting on Jews in Brooklyn. The attack was intended for the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel. If convicted, Khan could be sentenced to life in prison.

A Pakistani national was extradited from Canada to the United States on Tuesday, where he faces serious allegations related to plotting an attack against Jewish individuals in New York City. The U.S. Department of Justice has identified the suspect as Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon. He was arrested in Canada back in September, and now he is ready to confront charges made against him in U.S. courts.

According to a criminal complaint, Khan allegedly intended to travel to New York to execute a mass shooting targeting a Jewish community center in Brooklyn. This attack was reportedly timed to coincide with the October 7 anniversary of the Hamas assault on Israel that occurred in 2023. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton asserted, “He planned to use automatic weapons to kill as many members of our Jewish community as possible, all in support of IS.”

The accusations against Khan came from discussions he had with individuals he believed were conspirators but were actually undercover law enforcement agents, according to the Justice Department. He was taken into custody in Ormstown, Quebec, which is situated about 12 miles from the U.S.-Canada border.

Khan has been charged for attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, as well as attempts to commit acts of terrorism. If convicted on these charges, he faces the possibility of a life sentence in prison, which underscores the gravity of the situation he now finds himself in.
