The Chinese Bridge competition recently wrapped up its final phase on June 14 at Mohammed V University in Rabat, celebrating Chinese studies along with the rich cultural exchange between Morocco and China. The competition formed part of a national event involving candidates from three universities: Hassan II University in Casablanca, Mohammed V University in Rabat, and Abdelmalek Essaadi University in Tangier. The initial phase focused on testing Mandarin speaking, writing, and listening skills, culminating in a grand final with twelve participants.

During the final, competitors engaged in a speaking test followed by activities that showcased elements of Chinese culture. Yasmine El Mezouari El Galoui won the Special Prize for her outstanding presentation of traditional calligraphy and a tea ceremony, earning the chance to embark on a six-month internship in China to represent Morocco. The first prize went to Najlaa Maouzi.

Aside from the contests, the event also featured a variety of cultural performances, including Chinese calligraphy, traditional painting, and martial arts demonstrations like Kung-Fu. Each contestant showcased a unique activity, accompanying their performance with short films showcasing traditional artwork rooted in nature.

Organized by the Moroccan Government and the Chinese Embassy in Rabat, this event was a collaboration with two prominent Chinese universities: East China Normal University in Shanghai and Beijing Language and Cultural University. The Chinese Ambassador to Morocco, Li Changlin, was present at the event, delivering a speech emphasizing the significance of such academic and cultural exchanges for enhancing the relationship between the two nations.

In a statement to Morocco World News, Ambassador Li highlighted the positive context of the competition within the broader development of Sino-Moroccan ties. He remarked, “As you know, I also said in my speech, there is a dynamic in Sino-Moroccan cooperation. We have a very interesting cultural exchange. We have a very interesting cultural exchange.”

The competition coincided with strengthened bilateral relations between Morocco and China, aligning under the theme “One World, One Family”.
