The controversy began when a viewer surnamed Meng, hailing from Jiangsu province, stumbled upon the horrific scene online. Meng reported seeing dogs with their mouths forced open and blood visible on their teeth, which were wrapped in white cloth and laid out on a workbench.
“This was truly shocking. Whenever someone placed an order during the live streaming, the seller would swiftly pick up his tools and extract a tooth,” Meng remarked, noting her horror at the blatant cruelty. After commenting on the live stream to voice her concern, she was blocked by the seller.
One of the sellers involved, identified only as Li, suggested that they are capitalizing on a belief that teeth from older dogs are more potent in driving away misfortune, which allegedly drives their higher market value.
