Iranian Allies Condemn US Attacks on Nuclear Sites, Call for Ceasefire and Diplomacy in the Middle East
Iranian allies, including China, Russia, and Pakistan, condemned the U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, calling for an immediate ceasefire. Statements from UN representatives highlighted concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East and the need for diplomacy. President Trump announced significant military actions against Iran, further complicating the region’s geopolitical landscape.
Iranian allies, notably China, Russia, and Pakistan, voiced strong condemnation regarding recent U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear sites that took place late Saturday. An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council was convened on Sunday to address the fallout from these airstrikes, with a focus on halting further escalation in the volatile region. All three nations called for a swift and unconditional ceasefire as tensions flare in the Middle East.
China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong remarked that the U.S. strikes have not only harmed Iran but have also tarnished America’s own credibility in international negotiations. He expressed concern that the situation could spiral out of control, urging involved parties, particularly Israel, “to immediately cease fire to prevent the situation from escalating.”
During the same meeting, Ambassador Fu conveyed, “China strongly condemns the US attacks on Iran and the bombing of nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the IAEA.” He reiterated the need for immediate engagement in dialogue, emphasizing that the draft resolution from Russia, China, and Pakistan advocates for the protection of civilians and adherence to international law.
Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia joined the chorus of condemnation, stating, “the US has opened a Pandora’s box,” warning of catastrophe and suffering. Nebenzia characterized the U.S. actions as “irresponsible, dangerous and provocative,
Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia cautioned that only a cessation of hostilities would avert potential disaster in the region. also urged Security Council members to label the attacks accurately, asserting that it is “as if it were Iran and not Israel and the US that was escalating the situation.” Nebenzia also mentioned that Russia had previously offered to mediate discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear program, noting a lack of interest from the U.S. leadership in pursuing diplomatic avenues to resolve the crisis. Condemnation from Pakistan echoed similarly, with officials asserting that U.S. airstrikes violated international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the escalation of violence against Iran was “deeply disturbing” and could have dire ramifications for the entire region. Earlier statements from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed Pakistan’s disapproval of the U.S. military actions while highlighting the nation’s recent nomination of President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize following his role in ending a conflict with India. Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry also denounced the U.S. airstrikes on Iran. In a social media post, spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi emphasized the importance of sovereignty and urged diplomatic discussions instead of military interventions, which they view as unacceptable. His comments pointed to an overarching concern about the increasing instability across the region. On Saturday night, following the escalated attacks, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. “obliterated” critical nuclear sites in Tehran. This development has marked a significant increase in Western military actions against Iran since its 1979 revolution. As these tensions continue to unfold, global observers remain on alert, with calls for moderation echoing amongst Iran’s allies, who collectively strive to avert further violence and advocate for returning to diplomatic solutions.
