In a noteworthy meeting held in Washington, DC, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright on Tuesday, focusing on the significant energy transformation currently taking place in India. The discussions emphasized potential avenues for an enriched energy partnership between the two nations. Jaishankar later took to X to express his thoughts, stating, “A useful conversation with US @ENERGY @SecretaryWright in Washington DC this evening. Spoke about the energy transformation underway in India. And opportunities for a deeper India-US energy partnership.”
Strengthening Defense Ties Between India and US
Later in the day, EAM Jaishankar also met with US Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth, at the Pentagon. During this meeting, he underscored the strategic significance of India-US defense relations, categorizing them as “one of the most consequential pillars” supporting the bilateral partnership. The exchange was productive, aimed at enhancing the defense collaboration between the two nations, which is seeing a growing alignment of interests, capabilities, and responsibilities. Jaishankar’s visit to the US, extended at the invitation of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, included participation in the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting (QFMM). In another post on X, he stated, “A pleasure meeting US @SecRubio this afternoon, on the sidelines of Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting. Discussed our bilateral partnership, including trade, security, critical technologies, connectivity, energy and mobility. Shared perspectives on regional and global developments.” Notably, Jaishankar also found time to meet with Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, reinforcing the importance of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
