The Olympic beam finals on Monday delivered a dramatic spectacle as nerves led to falls for half of the eight competitors, including the well-known gymnasts Simone Biles and Suni Lee. In a surprising turn of events, Italy’s Alice D’Amato secured the gold medal, while China’s Zhou Yaqin took silver and Italy’s Manila Esposito claimed the bronze.
Prior to the final, three top contenders emerged. China’s Yaqin led the qualification round with a formidable 7.2 difficulty score, closely followed by Biles with a 6.4 score. Despite coming in fourth, Lee’s potential for high scores made her a favorite to medal.

In contrast to the errors, Esposito showcased a valiant performance, overcoming wobbles to secure a score of 14.0, propelling her to second place. Conversely, Romania’s Sabrina Voinea faltered with falls, scoring 11.733. D’Amato delivered a stunning routine, securing a score of 14.366 and claiming the top spot.
Biles, known for her unparalleled skill, encountered a setback with a fall, resulting in a score matching Lee’s 13.1. Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade rounded out the competition with a commendable routine and a score of 13.933.
The final results saw D’Amato taking gold, Yaqin securing silver, and Esposito clinching the bronze. Andrade narrowly missed the bronze, Biles and Lee tied with a score of 13.1, while Soares and Voinea trailed behind.
